II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

The mass photometry (MP) instrument is an interferometric microscope that provides single-molecule contrast and allows direct correlation to the molecular mass. Therefore, enables mass measurements of single molecules in solution, in their native state. The instrument is intended to be used to analyse sample mass and heterogeneity for rapid sample characterisation/optimisation for further structural studies (crystallisation, cryoEM), analysis of protein complex assemblies and molecular interactions.

The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons

Explanation:

The Refeyn OneMP Mass Photometry system is the only interferometric microscopy setup providing single-molecule contrast of sufficient quality, reproducibility and stability to allow for direct correlation to molecule mass. It provides directly information on all individual sub-species in the sample by single molecule counting rather than collect an ensemble signal. It is the sole instrument that enables label-free detection of molecular mass in native state, in solution, based on single molecule measurements as pioneered by Profs. Kukura and Benesch at Oxford University.

The technology builds on Intellectual Property Rights (WO 2018/011591, WO 2019/110977, DE 20 2019 100 833) and know-how licensed exclusively to Refeyn Ltd. There is currently no other commercial system available providing comparable functionality.
