We have received an infrastructure grant for buying an optical manipulation platform from Lumicks in Holland. The platform contains a built in confocal microscope system and super-resolution microscope (STED), four optical traps and a microfluidic system.

Model: SR Q-Trap system and it is the second of its kind in the world and is produced by Lumicks. The system is intended as a research equipment for 15 research groups in the Copenhagen area in a center called Center for Optical Biomanipulaion (COBM).

II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

We have received an infrastructure grant for buying an optical manipulation platform from Lumicks in Holland. The platform contains a built in confocal microscope system and super-resolution microscope (STED), four optical traps and a microfluidic system.

Model: SR Q-Trap system and it is the second of its kind in the world and is produced by Lumicks. The system is intended as a research equipment for 15 research groups in the Copenhagen area in a center called Center for Optical Biomanipulaion (COBM).

Procurement of a correlative tweezers-fluorescence instrument (C-Trap® SR G2) consisting of continuous wave quadruple traps optical tweezers, correlated super resolution fluorescence microscopy, multi-channel laminar flow micro-fluidics, and user-friendly C++/ python operating software. Purchase includes 5 years full warranty (labor and parts coverage). Instrument will be used for performing single-molecule experimentation with an absolute correlation of force and fluorescence for, e.g.: protein/nucleid acid (un)folding, DNA/RNA-protein interactions, and microtubules and actin assays.

Explanation:

Specification:

1) More than two continuous waves traps;

2) Unparalleled long-term stability and force resolution (<0.1 pN @100 Hz (1 μm beads at 0.35 pN/nm trap stiffness));

3) Correlated and integrated force-fluoresence spectroscopy with advanced microfluidics and python scripting engine enabling automated high-throughput experimentation.

Developing this technology requires a team of FTE biophysics experts/ engineers, software engineers, years of R&D, large investments and exclusive rights/patents.

LUMICKS currently holds multiple patents on this technology, listed below, making it the sole provider of this instrumentation:

1) EP3256254B1: apparatus and method for controlling a plurality of optical traps;

2) EP3004848A1: method and system for imaging a molecular strand;

3) WO2020130812A1: microscopy method and system (STED).
