Section IV: Procedure

IV.1) Description
IV.1.1) Type of procedure
Negotiated procedure without prior publication
  • The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
    • absence of competition for technical reasons
Explanation:

DTU mechanical engineering investigates a broad range of magnetic materials. High resolution imaging of ferromagnetic steel @ WD = 3 mm; AV = 1 kV @ 100.000x magnification must be possible. The unique objective lens design of the FESEM provides a low magnetic field at the specimen surface, which allows such high-resolution imaging of dia-, para-, or ferromagnetic samples — in any composition and together with other materials - is possible even at short working distances and low AV.

DTU mechanical engineering has a multi-purpose Zeiss Supra 35 SEM with EDS and EBSD detectors. This instrument is used by ∼30 users for research and education purposes. The capacity of the instrument is insufficient for the many users. An acquisition of a Zeiss Sigma 300 will resolve this limited capacity. With so many users, it is important that an additional instrument relies on a user-interface that is compatible with the existing SEM, so confusion and potential damage on switching from one instrument to the other is avoided. In an environment with many user and several microscopes transferability of data formats is paramount, and guaranteed when the same platform is used; this will not be the case another platform.

DTU mechanical engineering has eight Zeiss Axiovert light microscopes. Together with the new SEM, these microscopes can and will be used to perform multimodal correlative microscopy using the Zeiss ‘Shuttle and Find’ automated correlative hardware and software solution for seamless integration. This option is not available elsewhere.

The required instrument configuration can only be provided by Carl Zeiss.
