Acquisition of a NIRvana: 640LN InGaAs Camera-based Spectrometer
The Department of Chemistry at University of Copenhagen is the largest chemistry department in Denmark and hosts many excellent research groups working on all aspects of chemistry. In the Nanochemistry section we are building a world leading laboratory for optical spectroscopy and microscopy. We have several different homebuilt spectrometers and microscopes, and we have the demonstrated that we have the skills needed succeed in building the state-of-the-art spectrometer.
The purchase is needed to build a state-of-the-art fluorescence spectrometer that is capable of detecting photoluminescence in the visible and near-infrared part of the spectrum following excitation in the visible and near-infrared part of the spectra. Both capabilities are unique, only feasible as products has been developed that allow for the creation and detection of photons in the near-infrared part of the spectrum, and thus requires the purchase of these specialised pieces of equipment. The purchase is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. These specific items were specified in the grant application.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons

This is the only supplier of a camera with single-molecule fluorescence detection capability in the relevant parts of the spectrum. There are no other suppliers.
The system purchased here is a custom made solution that is critical part for the creation of a prototype luminescence spectrometer.
The equipment is protected in several patents:
— InGaAs camera and CMOS,
— US8866890B2,
— US7989842B2.
