Aarhus University wants to buy a gas permeability equipment. The equipment purpose is to support the recently established ‘Food Packaging’ research program and also the leading extensive research carried out in the FOOD Department related to food packaging and food packaging-food quality interactions and food shelf life. The researchers are familiar with design of new barrier film layers and packaging structures and are aware of how impactful to know structure-performance relations of gas barriers for food packaging. and the Extra Solution TotalPerm is the only instrument on the market, based on patented technology, that performs permeability measurements on three different kind of gases, O2, CO2 and Water Vapor in a single equipment where the full requirements of ASTM D3985 Standard are met and no sample pre-conditioning and cutting are required.

Gas permeability is a core equipment of research in food packaging field and is necessary to successfully deliver on the research as planned. For this reason, a system to measure the gas permeability of various sort of thin packaging films against O2, CO2 and water vapor such as plastic films, plastic composite films, paper-plastic composite films, biodegradable films, coextruded films, as well as packaging containers such as PET bottles and pouches is highly needed.

The instrument must have the following specifications:

— have 3 different gas sensors in a single equipment,

— measure three different gases, O2, CO2 and water vapor in a single equipment,

— test exactly the same surface for 3 different gas measurement - control of the relative humidity of both sides of the sample (carrier gas side and test gas side) independently and at the complete choice of the operator, choice of anhydro-anhydrous, anhydrous-wet, wet-anhydrous, wet-wet conditions can be selected by using the software,

— no sample pre-conditioning and cutting are required,

— comply with the norm ASTM D3985,

— be equipped with modular accessories to carry out measurements on packaging containers,

— broad measuring range,

— have a Versatile operation, easy to use and high efficiency system.
