Acquisition of a closed-cycle cryostat

The cryostat will be installed at the Niels Bohr Institute facilities, University of Copenhagen.

We are purchasing a closed-cycle cryostat with two cryo-heads to implement quantum photonics experiments. These experiments require stability on the nanometer scale, temperatures at 4 K to suppress all decoherence processes and fiber optics access for efficient in- and out-coupling of light to the photonic chips.

The experiments require to cool down two cryogenic chambers simultaneously, one to implement a stable single-photon source based on semiconductor quantum dots, that can be operated continuously (or at least > 6 months) and another chamber, to test and characterize photonic integrated circuits. The chambers should be cooled to 4 K to reduce the decoherence processes for efficient quantum information protocols and should be operated independently from each other. Additionally, the experiments require some high stability against mechanical vibrations and drift (below 20 nm). The Stinger Hydra Closed Cycle Cryostat designed and marketed by ColdEdge Inc. is the only one in the market which offers a 4K cooling system with dual transfer line, with sub-20 nm vibration. The dual transfer line means that two chambers can be simultaneously cooled down but also operated independently, enabling high flexibility in exchanging samples, while keeping continuous operation on another chamber.
