Capillary Electrophoresis System
Purchase of a capillary electrophoresis (CE) system for analysis of protein-surfactant interactions. This will allow us to monitor multiple populations of co-existing protein-surfactant species and provide further insight into different mechanisms of protein denaturation by surfactants.
The Sciex P/ACE MDQ automated CE is the only CE apparatus available on the market that combines precise temperature control of the capillary and stored samples, pressurizes the capillary from either or both sides, includes 96-well plates, allows automatic tests of different sample-buffer combinations for method development, provides fraction collection, combines CE on protein-sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) with capillary isoelectric focusing (cIEF) and capillary zone electrophoreses (CZE) in one unit and can be upgraded to include laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection.
Aarhus
We need to purchase a specific capillary electrophoresis apparatus for a planned research project.
Research problem:
The UNISURF project will develop a universal model for unfolding of proteins in different surfactants (both anionic and cationic) based on a comprehensive analysis of the structures, populations and energetics of protein-surfactant complexes formed at a range of surfactant concentrations. We therefore need to be able to monitor the formation of different protein-surfactant species under a wide range of different conditions, including variations in buffer composition, temperature and protein-surfactant ratios. As the complexes are very temperature sensitive, sll measurements have to be done on accurate temperature control. As the structure of complexes has to be determined by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), collection of different fractions of the separated species is crucial.
What do we need:
An automated CE setup with accurate temperature control and fraction collection for being able to monitor multiple populations of co-existing protein-surfactant species so that we can obtain further insight into different mechanisms of protein denaturation by surfactants, and use collected fractions for further SAXS experiments. For higher sensitivity, we need to be able to add LIF detection, should it turn out to be required.
The Sciex P/ACE MDQ automated CE is the only CE apparatus available on the market that combines precise temperature control of the capillary and stored samples, pressurizes the capillary from either or both sides, includes 96-well plates, automatically tests different sample-buffer combinations for method development, provides fraction collection, combines CE-SDS with cIEF and CZE in one unit and can be upgraded to laser-induced fluorescence.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
There has been a systematic search for commercially available CE system offering accurate temperature control, automated sample mixing and handling, fraction collection, multiple applications in one unit and possibility for upgrade to laser-induced fluorescence detection.
The Sciex P/ACE MDQ automated CE is the only CE apparatus available on the market that fulfills these needs based on a perusal of available models.

Following the notification, a standstill period of 10 calendar days will be held in accordance to paragraph 3 of Act No. 593 of 2 June 2016 on the Danish Act on the Complaints Board for public Procurement. This implies that the Contracting Authority cannot sign the Contract with the winning Tenderer before the standstill period has expired.
In case of complaints about tenders or decisions, e.g. award of contracts covered by Section II or III in the Danish Public Procurement Act must be submitted to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement (Klagenævnet for Udbud) within 45 calendar days from the day after the contractor published a notice in the Official Journal on the conclusion of a contract. At the latest concurrently with submission of an appeal to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement, the complainant must inform the Contracting Authority of the alleged infringement, and whether the appeal is to be referred to the board.
