The Department of Biomedicines at Aarhus University wishes to purchase a microtome to section biological plastic-embedded samples for their analysis by electron microscopy. This machine will serve multiple projects in which electron microscopy or electron tomography.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

With the purchased system, the aim is to cut ultrathin sections (50-70 nm) for electron microscopy and thin sections (150-500 nm) for electron tomography.

The full list of requirements:

1. Ultramicrotome with vibration free.

2. Eucentric microscope movement with defined click positions for glass knife and diamond knife operations.

3. Ad hoc antivibration table.

4. Controlled 4 x LED illuminations system for the specimen illumination.

5. Fully motorized knife stage for north-south and east-west movement.

6. Autotrim function.

7. East-west measurement for exact blockface trimming.

8. Integrable trimming block to hold the sample and perform sample trimming (before sectioning).

9. Possibility to add an extra external LED illumination to facilitate trimming.

10. Option to integrate in future an automatic sectioning device, for hundreds of sections for array tomography.

- absence of competition for technical reasons

Explanation:

Our market investigations showed that there are only two companies selling microtomes. The Leica EM UC7 system is one of the two and offer the eucentric microscope movement with defined click positions, a fully motorized knife stage for north-south and east-west movement and an east-west measurement for exact blockface trimming. In addition, it can be provided with an extra external LED illumination to facilitate the specimen trimming.

Following the notification, a standstill period of 10 calendar days will be held in accordance to paragraph 3 of Act No. 593 of 2 June 2016 on the Danish Act on the Complaints Board for public Procurement. This implies that the Contracting Authority cannot sign the Contract with the winning Tenderer before the standstill period has expired.

In case of complaints about tenders or decisions, e.g. award of contracts covered by Section II or III in the Danish Public Procurement Act must be submitted to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement (Klagenævnet for Udbud) within 45 calendar days from the day after the contractor published a notice in the Official Journal on the conclusion of a contract. At the latest concurrently with submission of an appeal to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement, the complainant must inform the Contracting Authority of the alleged infringement, and whether the appeal is to be referred to the board.
