Acquisition of a BD FACSymphony A5-SE Analyzer
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center Stem Cell Medicine is housed within the University of Copenhagen. The Center was launched 1st of January 2022 by funding through the Novo Nordiks Foundation and will drive translational research within the field of Stem Cell Medicine. The center operates Nodes in three different countries, but this transparency note is specific and restricted to the Node residing at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
We are planning to buy a BD FACSymphony A5-SE analyzer as legacy replacement of a 11 year old BD LSR Fortessa analyzer owned by the institute and operated by more than 50 independent users. The FACSymphony A5-SE will provide the desired and unique ability to provide both classical single-detector based mono-detector assays as well as spectral flow cytometry. The key - and therefore unique - factor is the patented cascadecagon Lonpass/Bandpass filter setup of the A5-SE were the instrument stays flexible due to the ability to manually change, in user applicable fashion, the light cutting elements. This will enable the center to continue to operate classical Flow Cytometry as required for a larger set of legacy protocols coming from the to be replaced Fortessa setup, while retaining the ability to advance the technology with the maturation of spectral capabilities in parallel.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- protection of exclusive rights, including intellectual property rights
The purchase of the FACSymphony A5-SE is routed in the soul provision of the BD proprietary cascadecagon setup allowing the combination and provision user optimizable LP and BP filter choices to enable in-the-field customizable mono-detector flow cytometry (legacy proving) and full-spectrum flow cytometry analysis at the same time. It is crucial for reNEW to provide a setup that allows us to provide legacy analysis based on the same LP-BP combinations while at the same time enabling novel assays to profit from full-spectrum flow cytometry.
The cascadecagon technology is patented by BD and part of the uniqueness of this setup:
