II.1.4) Short description:

Proteomics Research Infrastructure (PRI) is a state of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics facility. Founded on 1 July 2020, the new facility provides coordinated, proprietary client access to forerunner proteomic technology, exceptional technical assistance, and streamlined bioinformatic data analysis for the local research community. PRI is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) and linked to the NNF Center for Protein Research at the University of Copenhagen.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

The purchase is to add an additional instrument to the already existing installation, in the research facility at the University of Copenhagen. The procurement is to support the application in research and development, in basic research and applied research in proteomics.

In Spring 2022, PRI had previously published a ground for transparency notice to purchase an Eclipse Tribrid MS instrument via the instrument’s supplier Thermo Fisher, however it was announced a new enhanced model would be released later that year – the Ascend Tribrid MS instrument which this notice relates to. PRI decided to wait for this newer model to assure having the latest MS instrumentation in its laboratory and therefore puts forward this new transparency notice related to the new instrument.

Section IV: Procedure

IV.1) Description
IV.1.1) Type of procedure
Negotiated procedure without prior publication
  • The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
    • absence of competition for technical reasons
  • Additional deliveries by the original supplier ordered under the strict conditions stated in the directive
Explanation:

This instrument will be primarily used for measurements of 18-plex tandem Mass Tag (TMTpro) labeled peptides and specifically enriched post translationally modified peptides. Such measurements can only be deconvolved on an Orbitrap mass analyzer due to the required high resolution.

Like the Eclipse, the Ascend instrument features the unique Real Time Search (RTS) function, reducing commonly observed ratio decompression problems during TMT measurements. It therefore allows highly sensitive TMT measurements, needed for the processing of our research projects.

In addition, the Ascend features a new hardware design containing two ion routing multipoles. This increases the acquisition speed and allows for more measurements in shorter period of time.

This is an additional instrument to the Eclipse Tribrid MS instrument already present in the facility. It is necessary for these instruments to be compatible with one another as well as to hold alignment with existing systems.
