Acquisition of ProteoxMX 500
The Niels Bohr Institute is part of the Faculty of SCIENCE at the University of Copenhagen. The Niels Bohr Institute has a 100 year long tradition of excellence within science, in particular within the area of quantum physics. The institute was inaugurated on March 3, 1921, by Professor Niels Bohr. We are approx. 430 researchers, 70 administrative and technical staff, 100 PhD students and 400 students. The European Physical Society has declared the Niels Bohr Institute a Historic Site of great international importance for the development of physics and research.
We plan to purchase two cryostats to synergistically work together with the existing lab infrastructure of the applicants. The cryostats will play a central part in the research laboratory of Jesper Nygård and Ferdinand Kuemmeth at the Center for Quantum Devices, where they will be used for a research programme to develop quantum simulation hardware (funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation). The simulation hardware is based on quantum materials, quantum-electronics devices, and qubit chips that are controlled by many low-frequency control signals and many independent high-frequency control signals. The capability to apply strong magnetic fields and study temperature-dependent quantum properties in the range 0.01…30 K must not result in long cycle times (down times) when changing samples.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
- Additional deliveries by the original supplier ordered under the strict conditions stated in the directive
The research groups of Prof. Nygård and Prof. Kuemmeth are extending their measurement capabilities by adding two mutually compatible cryostats to their existing Oxford Instruments cryo-free dilution refrigerator setups. Similar to the existing systems, the new cryostats must meet temperature ranges between 10 mK and 30 K, magnetic fields up to at least 6 T, with sufficient cooling power to handle significant (>20dB) thermalizing attenuation on actively pulsed coaxial lines with minor vibration levels. The number of DC channels must be no smaller than 96, the number of coax lines to the sample no smaller than 28, and cooling water requirements should not exceed the need of one pulse tube. Sample loading must be possible (via a bottom loader) without the need to warm up the entire cryostat. To avoid detrimental aging (in atmospheric conditions) of various quantum materials to be studied in these cryostats, sample loading, cool down, warm up, re-cool, and unloading to room temperature must be possible without breaking vacuum. Cool down must be as fast as possible, and take no longer than 12 hours. Sample pucks must be compatible with sample holder systems used on the existing refrigerator setups (72-mm diameter, with 51-pin non-magnetic nanoD connectors and SMP bullets), in order to allow sharing of advanced high-frequency sample holders between cryostats, as well as to allow sharing of samples between different cryostats. Technical constraints of the intended lab space applies (such as cooling water and electrical power limitations), due to the recent relocation of a nearly identical Oxford Instruments cryo-free dilution fridges to other buildings.
- Active gas gap heat switch
• Patent number : EU : EP3742076B1
Active gas gap heat switch for rapid thermal cycling control. It allows for temperature control of the mixing chamber plate from <10mk up to 30K while operating the magnet at full field. This feature must be automatic and fully controllable via software (no manual intervention).
Software
The software is fully web based and allows for analytics and interactive visualization via embedded Grafana software to allow the user for interactive data-visualization platform.
- Fully removeable Secondary Insert
• Patent number: USA : US6758059 B2
This removeable self-supporting modular insert provides the ability to have multiple wiring configuration and hardware set up, depending on the user application. This is a multi-user platform allowing for multiple experiments and including at least 1 line of sight ISO100 port for future wiring upgrade.
- Bottom loader
• Patented number EU : EP2409096 B1 and EP2742299 B1
Puck compatibility with the dilution refrigerators currently installed at the lab (same puck design as Triton product line), allowing customer to re-use immediately the experimental setup and mechanical parts, developed for the Tritons dilution refrigerators on the new Proteox dilution refrigerators.
