The Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports (NEXS), UCPH, has long tradition in conducting clinical research studies involving children and adults where the assessment of energy metabolism is critical to prescribe diet and exercise interventions and evaluate their effect on human health.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

We are procuring 3 indirect calorimetry systems to replace the old machines we have at FRB campus. These systems will be used to measure total energy expenditure and substrate oxidation in children and adults who participate in our clinical research studies (e.g., More2Sleep, POM-FAME) but also for teaching at the MSc programme (e.g., Experimental Nutrition Physiology). This technique (indirect calorimetry) is the gold standard for measuring resting metabolic rate, diet induced thermogenesis, and maximal oxygen consumption during exercise in children and adults. Indirect calorimetry requires collection of ingoing and outgoing air (i.e. breath) using a canopy or a face mask for about 30 minutes.

The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
Additional deliveries by the original supplier ordered under the strict conditions stated in the directive

Explanation:

The Vyntus CPX system is the only indirect calorimetry system that suits our needs for a system with high accuracy & reproducibility (for research), ease-of-use (for teaching), and adjustability (studies during both rest and exercise).

The Vyntus CPX system is made by VYAIRE Medical Inc. in Germany, and Intramedic A/S is the sole importer, supplier and distributor in Denmark.

The intended procurement consists of the upgraded systems of our current equipment, which will be retired upon receiving the new instruments. However the operating software and much of the required peripherals are the same so we can keep utilizing them with the new instruments without the need to obtaining new.
