II.1.4) Short description:

The Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering at Aarhus University wishes to purchase a unique set of high temperature furnaces. We aim to purchase tube furnaces, three-zone tube furnaces, and a crystal growth (Bridgeman-style) furnace that will allow us to synthesize ionic, intermetallic as well as inorganic-organic hybrid compounds and grow high-quality crystals of these.

II.1.6) Information about lots
This contract is divided into lots: no
II.1.7) Total value of the procurement (excluding VAT)
Value excluding VAT: 105 000.00 EUR
II.2) Description
II.2.3) Place of performance
NUTS code: DK042 Østjylland
II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

Research problem: In order to establish the structure as well as structure-property relationships of advanced materials, the synthesis of novel materials and growth of crystals of sufficient quality for diffraction analysis (X-ray and neutron) is important. Furthermore, it is important to grow sufficiently large crystals, so that properties such as magnetization or electric or thermal transport or optical properties can be measured along specific directions of a crystal. This requires elaborate and sophisticated temperature programs and control, in time and space. For that reason we need a set of custom made furnaces, such as

• tube furnaces, which are mainly used for the materials synthesis and crystal growth with controlled temperature programs in time. Here a set of high as well as medium temperature furnaces are needed;

• three-zoned furnaces for materials synthesis through chemical transport and controlled growth of crystals with a time and temperature profile;

• a crystal growth furnace for extremely precise control of crystal growth, particularly in time, but also space which allows to grow larger crystalline specimen for property determination.

All furnaces have to meet specific requirements with respect to their dimensions (tube length and diameter) to match with customized sample environments.

II.2.5) Award criteria
II.2.11) Information about options
Options: no
II.2.13) Information about European Union funds
The procurement is related to a project and/or programme financed by European Union funds: no

Section IV: Procedure

IV.1) Description
IV.1.1) Type of procedure
Negotiated procedure without prior publication
  • The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
    • absence of competition for technical reasons
Explanation:

A few suppliers on the market offer some of the furnaces specified above, however HTM Reetz is the only commercial supplier that can deliver all of the furnaces. Additionally, only HTM Reetz can customize the lengths, diameter of the tubes in the tube furnaces as well as the heating zones. The possibility that there are other potential suppliers who could deliver the same has been objectively excluded by market consultations.

IV.1.3) Information about framework agreement
IV.1.8) Information about the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA)
The procurement is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement: yes
IV.2) Administrative information
