2023-0539895 - In vitro system
Our research focuses on understanding effective muscle regeneration and the mechanisms underlying its dysfunction during aging, in mice. Specifically, we are interested in investigating how the interplay between muscle stem cells and immune cells shapes the regeneration process during injury, both in young and old animals. The 1300B system from Aurora Scientific will be instrumental to measure muscle strength in vitro, in situ, and in vivo, an indicator of muscle function. This system will therefore enable us to study how pharmacological interventions that affect muscle stem cells or cells in the microenvironment modulates muscle function in response to injury.
Classical assessments of muscle strength, e.g. treadmill test, voluntary running wheels, grip strength etc. are highly influenced by behavior, making it difficult to address the specific effects of the muscle itself. Also, it is not possible to assess individual muscles using these classical tests. With the purchase of the 1300B we will be able to study individual muscles in vitro and in situ, and muscle groups in vivo without interference from a behavioral component.
The system must have the following specifications:
• Capable of performing in vitro muscle tests in mice
• Capable of performing in situ muscle tests in mice
• Capable of performing in vivo muscle tests in mice
• The system must be a streamlined platform able to perform all the above muscle tests
• Bath chamber for in vitro tests
• The main hardware components (a high-power, bi-phasic stimulator + Dual-Mode muscle lever system + data acquisition module) of the system should preferably have a small footprint
• Intuitive and dedicated software able to control stimulation parameters, muscle tension, etc.
• Software complete with customizable standard protocols
• Dedicated analysis package with automatic high-throughput modules for standard muscle experiments
• Available programming services for advanced data analysis
Section IV: Procedure
- The procurement falls outside the scope of application of the directive
To the best of our abilities, we cannot find other companies who can provide a similar system. Aurora Scientific is a leader in complete systems for muscle physiology. Similar systems can be constructed by combining the highly specialized individual components from different vendors. An example can be seen here: Iyer, S. R., et al. (2016). "In Vivo Assessment of Muscle Contractility in Animal Studies." Methods Mol Biol 1460: 293-307. We are however looking for a well-established streamlined platform without the need for multiple instruments, which we believe Aurora Scientific is the only company capable of providing.

Following the notification, a standstill period of 10 calendar days will be held in accordance to paragraph 3 of Act No. 593 of 2 June 2016 on the Danish Act on the Complaints Board for public Procurement. This implies that the Contracting Authority cannot sign the Contract with the winning Tenderer before the standstill period has expired.
In case of complaints about tenders or decisions, e.g. award of contracts covered by Section II or III in the Danish Public Procurement Act must be submitted to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement (Klagenævnet for Udbud) within 45 calendar days from the day after the contractor published a notice in the Official Journal on the conclusion of a contract. At the latest concurrently with submission of an appeal to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement, the complainant must inform the Contracting Authority of the alleged infringement, and whether the appeal is to be referred to the board.
