II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

The product is an optical microscope for non-contact measurement of surface topographies. The instrument can operate with three different working principles (focus variation, confocal, interferometry), allowing for topography measurement of different machined surfaces, made of different materials. In addition, the instrument allows for both 3D measurement of components placed on the stage, and also 3D volumetric (rotational) measurements of components with cylindrical symmetry. It is equipped with a vibration-isolation table, a number of lens objectives (different sets are to be used with different working principles), and software for the control of the instrument/acquisition/measurement. Other tools are also present for the usage with the rotational unit (clamping), and measurement stage (placing).

A detailed description of each component is included in the system quotation.

Section IV: Procedure

IV.1) Description
IV.1.1) Type of procedure
Negotiated procedure without prior publication
  • The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
    • absence of competition for technical reasons
Explanation:

In the occasion of the 23rd euspen International Conference held at DTU, a number of companies selling optical microscopes were visited. Among the instruments from these different companies, only Sensofar S Neox were found fully suitable for DTU’s needs.

According to knowledge from past experience, the interferometric working principle of other instruments can be very effective with smooth surfaces, but they might not be applicable with structured ones. Moreover, other instruments may be affected by measurement errors when measuring periodic structured surfaces. Thus, other instruments are not suitable for the diverse needs at the department.

Finally, due to the three different working principles in one instrument, Sensofar S Neox is judged very versatile and suitable both for different types of surface (smooth, structured, periodic, with form, etc.) and for any material (plastic, metal, transparent, thin film). Therefore, it is DTU’s assessment, that Sensofar S Neox is unique, and that no other instrument can fully meet the requirements necessary to pursue the purpose of using the instrument.
