II.1.4) Short description:

Automated parallel bio-reactor cultivation system for microbial applications in up to 250 mL scale.

Our main deliveries are:

— Test newly developed lead strains under realistic and relevant production conditions.

— Develop industrial relevant cultivation processes in small scale that reliably scale to larger processes.

— Characterize strains on a metabolic and physiological level applying well controlled and reproducible cultivation conditions.

The workstation will be used for screening, test and optimization of biotechnological processes and as so will deliver to all main deliverables mentioned above. To our knowledge no other system can meet/fulfil our technical needs as the TAP Bio-system ambr250.

Section IV: Procedure

IV.1) Description
IV.1.1) Type of procedure
Award of a contract without prior publication of a call for competition in the Official Journal of the European Union in the cases listed below
  • The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
    • absence of competition for technical reasons
Explanation:

The Screening and Fermentation group is a part of the iLoop core facility at DTU Bio-sustain.

We are currently expanding our fermentation capacity within the iLoop core facility for both strain characterization and process development applying industrial relevant conditions. Based on the expected throughput and the available personal we only can meet our main deliverables with a highly automated cultivation system to be able to achieve the required throughput while keeping the personal costs within a reasonable range.

The workstation will be used for screening, test and optimization of biotechnological processes and as so will deliver to all main deliverables mentioned above. To our knowledge no other system can meet/fulfil our technical needs as the TAP Bio-system ambr250. The necessary equipment itself including the selected option, in particular off-gas analyses and external condensation can only be bought from 1 supplier. It is unique in a sense that it is able to perform automated sampling, sample processing such as regent addition and storage of the samples (freezing, cooling). It is also possible to control all 24 reactors independently in terms of temperature, aeration, pH and stirrer speed as well as having individual feed lines to all reactors that ensure a continuous feed supply. This scale allows screening of strains/process condition while maintaining realistic conditions and environments relevant for larger scale work. Due to the high degree of automation approx. 75 % of manpower can be saved in comparison to traditional non-automated bio-reactors run at the operated at the same throughput. Also the footprint of this equipment is significantly smaller compared to standard bio-reactors. The option for off-gas analyses allows the generation of high-quality data for process optimization and adds another layer of possible process control strategies.

IV.1.3) Information about a framework agreement or a dynamic purchasing system
IV.1.6) Information about electronic auction
IV.1.8) Information about the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA)
The procurement is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement: yes
IV.2) Administrative information

IV.2.8) Information about termination of dynamic purchasing system
IV.2.9) Information about termination of call for competition in the form of a prior information notice
