Title Purchase of a Supercontinuum white light fiber laser
Description DTU intends to order a supercontinuum white light laser to be used for confocal fluorescence laser scanning microscopy, and spectroscopy within the section for Luminescence Physics and Technologies at the Department of Physics. The primary application is the study of metastable states in rock-forming minerals such as feldspars. The desired laser is the NKT Photonics SuperK FIANIUM, model FIU-15 provides a tunable, high-brightness source for both excitation and probing across a wide spectrum with the following features : i) A broad spectral output from 415 nm to 2400 nm with total power of 5.5 W to excite a wide range of defects within mineral band gaps; ii) Spectral power density (mW/nm) 2.0 @450 nm, 4.0 @532 nm, 4.0 @650 nm, 2.5 @780 nm and 2.8 @800 nm; iii) Superior power stability of < ±0.5% to ensure reproducible quantitative measurements during long-term experiments; iv) An optional Variable Repetition Rate (Pulse Picker) module for on-the-fly adjustment from 0.15 MHz to 78 MHz, which is essential for time-resolved photoluminescence measurements to characterize metastable state lifetimes; v) A fully fiber monolithic, maintenance-free design for uninterrupted operation during extended measurement campaigns; vi) An advanced graphical user interface (SuperK CONTROL) and a comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK) for seamless integration with our custom confocal microscopy and spectroscopy setups, enabling automated excitation-wavelength scanning and data acquisition; vii) The laser is air-cooled and can be plugged into a standard wall outlet. DTU considers that no other supercontinuum laser provides the specific combination of high stability, wide tunability, time-resolved capability, and advanced software integration required for the demanding high-resolution confocal imaging, and spectroscopy of metastable states in geological materials. Therefore, DTU intends to place a direct order for a SuperK FIANIUM FIU-15 to be delivered by NKT Photonics.
