The system we want to buy is set up to use a new technique called independent fibre photometry. Setting it up from scratch would require an expertise which we don't have and this is the only commercially available system of its kind. This system, will allow us to measure the activity of different brain areas in freely moving mice during behavioural experiments. We are sending one of our Phd students to a lab in the US which already uses this system and we will establish it in Denmark where no lab is working with a similar technique so far. We will able to optimize circuit tracing protocols to obtain better and more precise results. Since we have multiple researchers in our lab working on different scientific questions in the field of memory and fear, we will be able to use the method to answer different questions with this approach.

The system is able to:

— record green fluorescent signal in multiple brain regions in a freely moving animal,

— record red fluorescent signal in multiple brain regions in a freely moving animal,

— Live data processing,

— Branching fiber optic cables.

This technology is patented (ref: S15-390) and there Neurophotometrics Ltd. is the only company manufacturing this system.
