Section II: Object
Purchase of a closed-cycle cryostat.
In relation to a running Villum grant which allows us to build a highly advanced in-house ‘extreme conditions diffractometer’, we are now at a stage where we need to purchase a closed-cycle cryostat allowing cooling to 4.2 K. At this ultra-low temperature, we will collect single crystal diffraction data on compounds such as single molecule magnets and a range of post-perovskites, among other materials. In addition, and integral part of the project is to develop high-pressure cells for use with the cryostat, requiring that it has sufficient cooling. An additional constraint is that we need the cryostat to be directly implementable in our refurbished Huber 512.1 goniometer. This cryostat is thus highly specialized equipment, and through our combined observations at crystallography conferences and internet searches, we conclude that only Advanced Research Instruments, Inc will be able to provide such a product.
