II.1) Scope of the procurement
II.1.1) Title:

Acquisition of a iSCAN to NNF-CBRM, Section of Metabolic Genetics.

II.1.2) Main CPV code
38520000
II.1.3) Type of contract
Supplies
II.1.4) Short description:

The iSCAN from illumina is a BeadChip based platform (Infinium) and as such very different from other array technologies. It has numerous advantages over other high-density microarrays, including:

1) 50-mer probe sequences for better selectivity and sensitivity.

2) Greater than 30-fold feature redundancy for higher confidence fluorescent intensities,

3) High feature density allowing smaller reagent and sample volumes.

4) Standardized hybridization set-ups for reproducible data generation across several types of data.

5) Several data types produced on the same system/same technique allows for improved data integration. A) Gene expression, B) Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) C) Copy number variation (CNV) D) DNA methylation.

II.1.6) Information about lots
This contract is divided into lots: no
II.1.7) Total value of the procurement (excluding VAT)
Value excluding VAT: 1 487 194.00 DKK

The procurement is related to a project and/or programme financed by European Union funds: no
II.2.14) Additional information

The NNF-CBMR, Section of Metabolic Genetics at the University of Copenhagen has several past and ongoing studies using the Illumina technologies/BeadChip Platform system. Data generated under these studies, which is of importance for continuation as well as future studies cannot be generated or easily compared to data generated using other array technologies.

Integration of various data sets gene.

Section IV: Procedure

IV.1) Description
IV.1.1) Type of procedure
Award of a contract without prior publication of a call for competition in the Official Journal of the European Union in the cases listed below
  • The procurement falls outside the scope of application of the directive
Explanation:

Illumina's patented bead-array based platform (Infinium) has numerous advantages over other high-density microarrays which include:

1) 50-mer probe-sequences for better selectivity and sensitivity.

2) Greater than 30-fold feature redundancy for higher confidence fluorescent intensities, 3) High feature density allowing smaller reagent and sample volumes.

4) Standardized hybridization set-ups for reproducible data generation across several types of data.

Illumina is the only source for the required items as the BeadChip array format is a fundamentally different technology (under patent) and is not compatible with other bench top systems for genetic analysis.

Integration of various data sets generated from same sample. The Infinium BeadChip technology represents multiple types of data making integration more readily.
