Q Exactive HF with Vanquish Flex.
A Thermo Scientific Q Extractive HF with Vanquish Flex UHPLC system.
Due to the complexity of crude oil, full characterisation of its components requires a combination of multiple complimentary instrumental techniques. Currently, our laboratory has advanced gas chromatography and mass spectrometry facilities for analyse volatile/semi-volatile and low to medium molecular weight compounds. However, we lack the capability for identification of polar and high molecular weight constituents. Therefore, we wish to acquire a mass spectrometer (MS) coupled to a high-pressure liquid chromatography system.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
Due to the complexity of crude oil, full characterization of its components requires a combination of multiple complimentary instrumental techniques. Currently, our laboratory has a requirement for a high-resolution MS system for petroleum analysis. Whereas mass resolution allows the separation of compounds with a near identical molecular weight, mass accuracy allows determination of molecular formula. For successful determination of molecular structure, ultra-high mass resolution and accuracy are a pre-requisite when analyzing complex mixtures. A common isobaric motif in petroleomics is C3 and SH4 (Δm = 3.4 mDa), which requires a resolution of >100k for separation at m/z 400 (assuming equal peak intensity). At m/z 800, the required resolution is >230k. The Q Extractive series of instruments uniquely meets these requirements on the market.
To accommodate the varying ionization potential of different compound classes, the instrument should have a swappable ionization source (with options for ESI, APPI, APCI) and operate in positive and negative mode. Further, to analyze species not separable by chromatography the instrument should have the option of direct infusion and a possibility of future upgrades with ambient ionization sources.
The Vanquish flex is the natural choice for coupling to an Orbitrap MS as the same software suite can control both components. Additionally, we currently have a Dionex Ultimate 3000 SD system, which is the previous model, for semi-preparative fractionation, which means that we will have the added benefit from being familiar with the system and having interchangeable spare parts and consumables.

Pursuant to Danish Act on The Complaints Board for Public Procurement (Act No. 492 of 12.5.2010 with subsequent amendments – available at www.retsinformation.dk), the following time limits for filing a complaint apply: Complaints must be filed with The Complaints Board for Public Procurement within 1: 45 calendar days after the contracting authority has published a contract award notice in the Official Journal of the European Union (with effect from the day following the publication date) 2: 30 calendar days starting the day after the contracting authority has informed the tenderers in question, that the contracting authority has entered into a contract based on a framework agreement through reopening of competition or a dynamic purchasing system, provided that the notification includes a short account of the relevant reasons for the decision. 3: 6 months starting the day after the contracting authority has sent notification to the candidates/tenderers involved that the contracting authority has entered into the framework agreement, cf. § 2(2) or § 171(4) of the Act on Public Procurement, provided that the notification included a short account of the relevant reasons for the decision.4) 20 calendar days starting the day after the contracting authority has published a notice concerning his decision to uphold the contract, cf. § 185 (2) of the Act on Public Procurement. The complainant must inform the contracting authority of the complaint in writing at the latest simultaneously with the lodge of the complaint to The Complaints Board for Public Procurement stating whether the complaint has been lodged in the stand-still period, cf. § 6(4) of the Act on The Complaints Board for Public Procurement. If the complaint has not been lodged in the stand-still period, the complainant must also state whether it is requested that the appeal is granted delaying effect, cf. § 12(1) of the said Act. The e-mail of The Complaints Board for Public Procurement is stated in section VI.4.1. The Complaints Board for Public Procurement’s own guidance note concerning complaints is available at the internet address stated in section VI.4.1.
