Fully Automated Platform for Phenotypic Microarray Allowing Aerobic Identification and Phenotypic Analysis for Microbial and Mammalian cells – Omnilog PM Technology
SLU has the intention to buy an instrument — Omnilog PM technology.
SLU has found that the Omnilog Phenotype Microarray Technology including automated camera assisted incubator, reader, PM software pre-installed to a PC compatible to store and analyze big data sets from Biolog Inc. is the only instrument on the market that meets these requirements and can be used in the upcoming project.
Please inform SLU in case your company can offer an instrument with equivalent characteristics to the QX200 Droplet Digital
PCR Reader with Automated Droplet Generator (Auto DG).
SLU, Dept of Biosystems and Technology; Microbial Horticulture Research Unit, Alnarp, Sweden.
The automated platform for phenotypic microrarray is consists of a camera equipped incubation robot with space for 48 microtiter plates, computer integrated reader and software. Phenotype Microarray is based are pre-configured 96 well plates containing different classes of chemical compounds designed to test for the presence or absence of specific cellular phenotypes. The plates gives a broad range of carbon, nitrogen, sulfates and phosphates. Next to this, hormones, pH, ions, antibiotics/resistance and chemical sensitivity can be to be tested. The Biolog Omnilog system is the only technology worldwide given the possibility of phenotype microarray on bacteria, yeast and fungi. A software special designed for mammalian cells gives you a possibility of doing phenotype characterization on fx CHO, BHK, NS0 or primary cell lines. On top of this, it gives the possibility of Identification of aerobes; gram neg/gram pos, anaerobes, yeast and filamentous fungi. All functions in one equipment.
Section IV: Procedure
- The works, supplies or services can be provided only by a particular economic operator for the following reason:
- absence of competition for technical reasons
The phenotypic microarray is based on biochemical principles, i.e., respiration. The test system is based on single organic sources (substrates). Substrate utilization is indicated through color change of the redox dye tetrazolium blue (unique formulations for different types of cells). This allows qualitative and quantitative determination of utilization of the specific compound. The technology can be used for:
— correlations between genotypes and phenotypes,
— characterization of functional biodiversity of complex microbial communities,
— cell metabolism and chemical sensitivity,
— optimizing cell lines and culture conditions in a bioprocess,
— characterization of cell phenotypes for taxonomic or epidemiological studies.
The data management software allows determination of different growth dependent parameters, i.e., length of lag-phase, length and slope of exponential phase, maximum utilization, integration of area under the curve.
In total, approx. 2 000 metabolically crucial compounds and conditions can be analysed.
Environmental conditions, such as temperature and with some modifications also certain atmospheric conditions as well as incubation length can be controlled. Readings are done every 15 min through an automated camera system and results translated into extinction units and automatically stored. The process can be overviewed during the entire duration of the incubation.
Statistical packages (in R studio) to perform bioinformatics analysis is available.
Access to quick and efficient service and support is mandatory.
