II.2.4) Description of the procurement:

In order to perform advanced spatially and angular resolved photoemission measurements of solid state materials at the SGM4 beamline of the Astrid 2 synchrotron light source, Aarhus University wish to buy 2 pieces of differentially pumped rotary seals, 1 piece with 14”CF base and 1 piece with 8”CF base. The feed throughs will be used to rotate a spectrometer around 2 axes with respect to the target material, while maintaining ultra-high vacuum conditions. The beam size and target area require extreme precise control of positioning and movement. The total weight of the system is calculated to 350 kg.

To fulfil this, the following requirements have to be met by the supplier:

Both seals have to be leak tight to UHV vacuum in level of 10 e-11 Torr and resistant to temperature of minimum 150 deg. Celsius. The 14” version has to be able to carry 350 kg vertical load and rotate with a precision of <0,05 deg/step via stepper motor. The 8” version must carry a vertical load of 75 kg and be rotated by stepper motor. Both rotary seals must be differentially pumped by mounted Ion pumps and mounted with zero position sensor for axis homing. The stepper motor control with 2-axis output must be equipped with hardware and limit input, and interface for computer control.

Explanation:

After exploring the market, it is our opinion there is only one company who can meet our requirements, i.e. Thermionics Northwest Inc. With respect to a total evaluation on all requirements, size, pressure, temperature, load carry and movement precision, Thermionics Northwest are the only company who can deliver the parts needed.
