Examples of RAM software are the so-called WAsP and WAsP Engineering softwares, but the procurement also comprises several other tools and utilities used by many every day. As the WAsP and WAsP Engineering software has been developed during many years, it is mainly based on older software technology and it needs to be supported by this purchase of IT consultancy services.

Examples of RAM software:

— WAsP is the industry-standard PC software for wind resource assessment, siting and energy yield calculations for wind turbines and wind farms. WAsP is used for sites located in all kinds of terrain all over the world and includes models and tools for every step in the process from wind data analysis to calculation of the energy yield for a wind farm. Almost 5 000 WAsP licenses have been sold in about 100 countries,

— WAsP Engineering is the industry-standard PC software for calculation of wind conditions, which are relevant for fatigue loads, extreme loads and siting of wind turbines and wind farms. WAsP Engineering is used for sites located in all kinds of terrain all over the world and includes models and tools for every step in the process from wind data analysis to calculation of the wind conditions for a wind farm. Almost 1 000 WAsP Engineering licenses have been sold in about 50 countries.

In addition to WAsP and WAsP Engineering, the RAM software also comprises several other tools and utilities used by many every day. As the WAsP and WAsP Engineering software has been developed during many years, it is mainly based on older software technology and it needs to be supported by this purchase of IT consultancy services.

Explanation:

World in a Box Finland Oy has developed the RAM software during a period of more than 20 years and thereby acquired unique know-how for many critical parts of the RAM software that cannot be transferred to other consultancies.

This includes:

— specific, technical insight and knowledge into the software,

— 20 years of experience working with software code from DTU researchers, industry software makers and end-users,

— knowledge on building COM executables (technology from the 1970s) based on Fortran 77 code,

— a comprehensive user-support system with thousands of users.

During the past 2 years, DTU Wind Energy has transferred a significant part of the required know-how in-house and reduced the need for supplementary IT-services to a minimum. Thus, only the know-how that is not transferable remains with World in a Box, making them the only supplier capable of delivering the services needed.

The further development of the RAM software is critical to important research and educational activities as well as to our value creation in the wind energy sector and society. Only World in a Box Finland Oy has the unique know-how required to support this mission.
