IEC 60204-1: Machine Safety

CE Marking: Ensuring the Safety of Machines and Systems in the EU

The CE marking is a mandatory requirement for any machine or system that is intended to be brought to market in the European Union and associated countries. The manufacturer is responsible for obtaining this marking, which serves as a guarantee that the product in question complies with all relevant legal and technical requirements with regard to safety.

In Europe, the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU establish minimum standards for safety and occupational health in the context of machinery. The implementation of these standards is detailed in a series of technical specifications known as harmonizing standards. One such standard is IEC 60204-1, which specifies the requirements for the electrical equipment of machines. This standard applies to electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic equipment as well as groups of networked machines, including control cabinet constructions.

One company that has acquired this CE marking is SCHURTER, which complies with all the safety requirements set by IEC 60204-1 and has successfully passed the necessary tests and inspections to obtain this certification.
