Acquisition of a Becton Dickinson FACSymphony A5 Analyzer and FACSymphony S6 sorter
Acquisition of a Becton Dickinson FACSymphony A5 Analyzer and FACSymphony S6 sorter by Flow Cytometry and Single cell Analysis facility, Department of Immunology and Microbiology. We are planning to buy a BD FACSymphony S6 sorter as replacement of a 12 year old BD ARIA-II sorter owned by the department and used to service more than 100 independent users.
We are planning to buy a BD FACSymphony S6 sorter as replacement of a 12 year old BD ARIA-II sorter owned by the department and used to service more than 100 independent users. The key - and therefore unique - factor is the patented cascadecagon Longpass/Bandpass filter setup of the S6 were the instrument stays flexible due to the ability to manually change, in user applicable fashion, the light cutting elements. This will enable the department to continue to operate classical Flow Cytometry as required for a larger set of protocols coming from the, to be replaced, ARIA-II setup, while retaining the ability to advance the technology with the maturation of spectral capabilities in parallel.
We will also buy a BD FACSymphony A5 Analyzer, since we need a 1:1 identical instrument where Flow Cytometry and cell sorting can be done with identical protocols. The A5 analyzer are equipped with the same cascadecagon as the S6 sorter.

The purchase of the FACSymphony A5 Analyzer and S6 sorter is routed in the soul provision of the BD proprietary cascadecagon setup allowing the combination and provision user optimizable LP and BP filter choices to enable in-the-field customizable mono-detector flow cytometry (legacy proving) and full-spectrum flow cytometry analysis at the same time. It is crucial for the core facility to provide a setup that allows us to provide legacy analysis based on the same LP-BP combinations on identical instruments while at the same time enabling novel assays to profit from full-spectrum flow cytometry.
The S6 sorter are to replace an ARIA-II sorter where users have developed their protocols for.
The cascadecagon technology is patented by BD and part of the uniqueness of this setup:
