Aquisition of a Cypher VRS (Vidoe Rate Scanner) AFM System
Purchase of an Atomic force microscope with a fast scan capability and a stable piezo drive.
Section for geoGenetics would like to purchase an Atomic force microscope with a fast scan capability and a stable piezo drive. Such a setup will allow me to full fill my grant obligations namely to look at DNA stabilization and dynamics on mineral surfaces over time and in different solutions. I also need to quantify the interactions between DNA and minerals. The chosen instrument has the required force mode for the task.

Currently, this is the most stable AFM available for my needs (fast scanning, high resolution scanning and force measurements in liquid). This is partly due to their closed loop system, VRS setup, their patented blue drive system for driving the cantilever and the easy exchange of laser spot size. Attached file (Video rate AFM specs) give full details. This is also the only system on the market to have an 100 % hermetic closed fluid cell.
