The Department of Biology needs a sequencing facility for internal use. The NextSeq 550 system is the most flexible and cost-effective system that is also compatible with the sequencing libraries prepared by the researchers at the department. By

Having our own machine, the researchers at the department can get more rapid and cheaper DNA sequencing than currently. To keep the machine running a service contract is needed.

Explanation:

The Illumina NextSeq system with iSeq addition is the only sequencer on the market meeting any of these requirements. Illumina sequencing technology is also the state-of-the-arts instruments most widely used for microbiology sequencing in research and diagnostics today, making comparisons to related and ongoing studies, also made by Illumina data, possible. We have several ongoing projects where similar data production is required in the future.

The illumina adapters and sequencing platform is covered by patents and other exclusive rights.
